Which is the right kayak for me?
To choose the right boat, you must first ask yourself what type of kayaking do you want to do. Huey gives an overview.

Recreational / Light Touring
Our leisure models are lightweight kayaks that are capable of carrying gear for a weekend trip. These kayaks are light, easy to paddle, sail downwind, and easy to assemble. They are no less sea-worthy than expedition models, having hand-made with the same precision as their expedition counterparts. Their only limitation is that they may require frequent re-supplies on long trips. If you want to get into touring, then such boats are the right fit.

Fitness / Racing
For those looking to use a kayak to build up their fitness, like the feel of speed, or looking for a fast portable trainer, there are currently 2 exciting folding options. The revolutionary Nautiraid K1 racing kayak (ICF approved) designed by 6-time Olympic champion Brigit Fischer is is touted as the fastest folding kayak in the market. But it has serious competition from the FC Jet Stream, which is an ocean surf ski. Check them out!

Open Sea Expeditions / Crossings
Our expedition models are large volume kayaks capable of storing 2 days or many weeks of gear. As such they are also longer, larger, heavier, and consequently take a longer time to set up. If you are a large or powerful paddler you would like these boats. They are the most sea worthy kayaks in our range, having been merticulously engineered and proven to withstand the harshest conditions in many outstanding expeditions. All of them can also be adapted with full sails. Have one of these and you probably won't need another sea kayak in your life.

Trekking / Packrafting / Adventure Racing
The main consideration here is weight, as you won't want a boat to slow down a trek. But nature invites you not only to savor its wonders on land, but also on the water. Having an ultra-light boat in your backpack is an ideal way to enjoy nature to its fullest. These boats are small, silent, and have low impact on the environment. They get you to places that are normally inaccessible, carry your backpacks, and allow you to simply enjoy the peace and solitute on the water. Like a companion.

Boats for adventurer racing have to be ultra light, packs easily, and built tough to the highest standards. Considering the extreme terrain that racers have to pass through, it is understandable that they are fussy about quality. Most adventue racers we know are using the packrafts.

Fishing / Photography / Other Nature Pursuits
Fishermen and photographers are probably more adventurous than most kayakers. They tend to bring lots of gear for their trip and are known to travel to the most remote or dangerous places. While kayaks would be good for open water, packrafts are perfect for those hard to reach rivers and lakes. These recommended kayaks are ideal becuase of their large cockpit size, which will give you places to clamp the gear, and space to handle your catch or set up the shot. And whether they are kayaks or packrafts, they are just so comfortable to laze all day in.

Greenland Kayaking
If you sometimes believe, like I sometimes do for me, that you are a reincarnation of an Inuit or your ancestors were from Greenland, then you must salivate after the Khatsalano. No folding kayaks come close to capturing the spirit of the traditional Greenland hunting boats than the Khat. Sleek, fast, and capable of doing all the right rolls, it is a high performance boat for those who know boats. Wiped it out.

Boats: FC Khatsalano, Nautiraid Greenlander

And if you are someone who throws rubbish into our waterways, then shame on you! What you need is not one of our boats, and we won't recommend anything for you. But please write to us so that we can bring you paddling and show you what kind of mess you had made.
